  • What is CT PIRC?
The work of the CT Parent Information and Resource Center (CT PIRC) is guided by the overarching principle that all families have strengths and all families play a critical role in their children's educational success. The goal of CT PIRC is to strengthen parental decision making by improving their access to information and resources regarding their children's education through the coordination and integration of federal, state and local programs. CT PIRC builds the capacity of schools, families and communities to establish and promote ongoing productive partnerships in support of student success.
  • What is a Family Involvement Policy?
The No Child Left Behind amendments to the federal Title 1 program include many requirements for parent involvement at the district and school levels. Parent and community leaders can and should have a major influence on how parental involvement policies are made and implemented.
  • What is School Choice?
Under No Child Left Behind (NCLB), if a Title 1 school does not make adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two or more years in a row in the same subject (reading and/or mathematics), it is said to be "In Need of Improvement." The school must offer public school choice to parents. Schools must continue to offer school choice each year until they make AYP for two years in a row.
  • What are Supplemental Educational Services (SES)?
Under No Child Left Behind (NCLB), if a Title 1 school has been identified as "In Need of Improvement" for two or more years, it must offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES) to eligible students.

Serving families, teachers and other professionals who work on behalf of the children in Connecticut.
